'I find Cambridge an asylum in every sense of the word,' said the scholar and poet, A.E. Housman, on arriving in Cambridge from Oxford. Cambridge wasn't always so tranquil a place. The townspeople had rather a riotous history (in 1261, 1381 and 1831, to be exact). And Cambridge hasn't always been Cambridge, either. Cantabrigia, Caumbrigge, Caumbrege, Camberage, or, as Chaucer had it in The Reeve's Tale, Canterbrigge, all had their chance. Cambridge didn't get the nod until Elizabeth I. Now, of course, the town is thoroughly civilised and settled!

Browns Restaurant Cambridge is located in Trumpington Street, 5 minutes walk from the City Centre and within easy reach of the famous sites of Cambridge.

We converted the outpatients' department of the famous Addenbrookes Hospital in 1987 to create a 200 seat restaurant with a very attractive bar area which is popular in its own right and famous for its Bloody Mary's! The restaurant also has outside seating on the front terrace. Again it has become an institution in the City, well loved by students, their families, business and town folk and tourists alike.
